Also a longtime electric guitar player, Patrick Borchard is a Phish fan who admires the improvisatory fretwork of Trey Anastasio. He received a signed guitar played by the musician from his wife as a Christmas gift.

Never one to rest on his laurels, Anastasio was an integral part of the Grateful Dead reunion concerts in 2015, capably taking the place vacated by the late Jerry Garcia. Fresh off a well-received summer Phish tour, Trey Anastasio kicked off his Autumn solo tour in October with a pair of sold-out shows at Brooklyn’s Kings Theatre.

Taking the opportunity to expand his repertoire, Anastasio presented new cover versions of three classics from the 1970s: Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young’s 49 Bye Byes, Bob Marley’s Soul Rebel, and George Harrison’s love song What is Life. He also played a fierce six-minute version of Led Zeppelin’s hard rock classic Dazed & Confused. These nods to revered songsmiths do not mean that Anastasio is looking solely to the past for inspiration. On October 21, he released the highly anticipated solo album Paper Wheels. ]]>
<![CDATA[The Notre Dame Club of Chicago Scholarship Foundation Award ]]>Wed, 02 Sep 2015 00:37:20 GMThttp://patrickborchard.weebly.com/blog/the-notre-dame-club-of-chicago-scholarship-foundation-awardPatrick Borchard, a financial executive at Pangea Properties, graduated with high honors from the University of Notre Dame with a degree in finance and accounting. Today, Patrick Borchard stays involved with his alma mater through the Notre Dame Club of Chicago, a group of alumni who continue to support the university through donation, service projects, networking events, and scholarship sponsorship.

The club currently sponsors over 70 Notre Dame students. Scholarships offered by the Notre Dame Club of Chicago are available to high school seniors who live in Cook County and have been accepted to the university. Each year, the financial aid office at Notre Dame determines student financial need to qualify entering freshmen for the scholarships.

Individuals identified by the school’s financial aid office are then sent applications that must be completed and submitted to the club by the first week in April. Scholarship recipients have the option of renewing their award for all four years of their undergraduate career, assuming their financial situation does not change and that they maintain a positive academic record. ]]>
